اتفق الفقهاء على أنه إذا اجتمعت جنائز يجوز أن يصلى عليهم مجتمعين، أو فرادى.
ثم قال الحنفية: إن صلى عليهم دفعة؛ فإن شاء جعلهم صفاً واحداً عرضاً، وإن شاء وضع واحداً بعد واحد مما يلي القبلة ليقوم بحذاء الكل، هذا جواب ظاهر الرواية.
وقال مالك: أرى ذلك واسعاً، إن جعل بعضهم خلف بعض، أو جُعلِوا صفاً واحداً، ويقوم الإمام وسط ذلك، ويصلي عليهم.
وقال الشافعية - في الأصح عندهم - والحنابلة: إن الجنائز توضع أمام الإمام بعضها خلف بعض، والقول الثاني عند الشافعية: أنها توضع بين يدي الإمام صفاً واحداً عن يمينه فيقف هو في محاذاة الآخر منهم.
