وكان الصحابة رضي الله عنهم يقولون الاجتماع على الطعام من مكارم الأخلاق.
الاجتماع على الطعام يساعد في تأليف القلوب والتقريب بين النفوس، كما أنه سبيل للاستفادة من الطعام والانتفاع به والشبع منه.
يؤخذ منه استحباب الاجتماع على الطعام وأن لا يأكل المرء وحده وفيه إشارة إلى أن المواساة إذا حصلت حصلت النعمة معها والبركة فتعم الحاضرين قال بعضهم: وفي الأكل مع الجماعة فوائد منها ائتلاف القلوب وكثرة الرزق والمدد وامتثال أمر الشارع لأنه تعالى أمرنا بإقامة الدين وعدم التفرق فيه ولا يستقيم ذلك إلا بائتلاف القلوب ولا تألف إلا بالاجتماع على الطعام وشر الناس من أكل وحده ومنع رفده.

4574 - عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْقُرَشِيِّ، قَالَ: كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ فَمَرَّ بِنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، وَلَمْ أَرَ هَاشِمِيًّا قَطُّ كَانَ أَعْبُدَ لِلَّهِ مِنْهُ، فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ وَقُمْنَا مَعَهُ، فَسَلَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْنَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعِيدٌ: يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ، أَخْبِرْنَا عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ أَسَدِ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ أُمِّ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ يَقُولُ: لَمَّا مَاتَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَسَدِ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ كَفَّنَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي قَمِيصِهِ وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا، وَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهَا سَبْعِينَ تَكْبِيرَةً، وَنَزَلَ فِي قَبْرِهَا فَجَعَلَ يَوْمِي فِي نَوَاحِي الْقَبْرِ، كَأَنَّهُ يُوَسِّعُهُ وَيُسَوِّي عَلَيْهَا وَخَرَجَ مِنْ قَبْرِهَا وَعَيْنَاهُ تَذْرِفَانِ، وَحَثَا فِي قَبْرِهَا فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ، قَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، رَأَيْتُكَ فَعَلْتَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةِ شَيْئًا لَمْ تَفْعَلْهُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ، فَقَالَ: «يَا عُمَرُ، إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةَ كَانَتْ أُمِّي الَّتِي وَلَدَتْنِي، إِنَّ أَبَا طَالِبٍ كَانَ يَصْنَعُ الصَّنِيعَ، وَتَكُونُ لَهُ الْمَأْدُبَةُ، وَكَانَ يَجْمَعُنَا عَلَى طَعَامِهِ، فَكَانَتْ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُفَضِّلُ مِنْهُ كُلِّهِ نَصِيبًا فَأَعُودُ فِيهِ، وَإِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أَخْبَرَنِي عَنْ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَّهَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ، وَأَخْبَرَنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى أَمَرَ سَبْعِينَ أَلْفًا مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهَا»
