"يقرأ المسلمون القرآن فيحركون ألسنتهم بلفظ كلماته وتجويد تلاوته، ولكن لا يفكرون في وجوب تحريك عقولهم لفهم معانيه ، ويرون أن هذا هو الأصل في القراءة !.
وصار البر بالقرآن كل البر، والعناية به كل العناية ، أن نتقن مخارج حروفه ونفخم مفخمه ونرقق مرققه ونحافظ على حدود مدوده، ونعرف مواضع إخفاء النون وإظهارها ودغمها وقلبها والغنة بها .
فهل ينفع القاضي أن يقرأ القانون مجودًا ثم لا يفهمه ولا يحكم به؟ وإذا تلقى الضابط برقية القيادة هل ينجيه من المحكمة العسكرية أن يضعها على رأسه ويقبلها ويترنم بها، ولا يحاول أن يدرك مضمونها .
بل لو رأيتم رجلًا قعد يقرأ جريدة حتى أتمها كلها من عنوانها إلى آخر إعلان فيها، فسألتموه: ما هي أخبارها؟ فقال: والله ما أدري، لم أحاول أن أتفهم معناها فماذا تقولون فيه؟ أما تنكرونه وتنكرون عليه؟ فكيف لا تنكرون على من يعكف على المصحف حتى يختم الختمة، وقد خرج منها بمثل ما دخل فيها ، ما فهم من معانيها شيئًا؟
فمن أين جاءت هذه المصيبة؟ وأي عدو من أعداء الله استطاع أن يلعب هذه اللعبة فيحرم المسلمين من قرآنهم وهو بين أيديهم، وفي كل بيت نُسخ منه، وهو يُتلى دائمًا في كل مكان؟ يحرمهم منه وهو في أيديهم وهو ملء أنظارهم وأسماعهم؟ مسألة عجيبة جدًا والله !" .
